Rodwin Explains Increasing Medical Practice Expenses
Personal Injury News Items
According to a study done at Suffolk University and published on May 8, 2006 in the journal "Health Affairs", malpractice premiums increased from 6% of physicians' total expenses in 1970 to 11% of expenses in 1986, but dropped back to 6% of expenses in 1996 and still remained low at 7% of expenses in 2000. This study - like many others - supports the belief that the "malpractice crisis" is primarily a mantra that liability insurers use to try to generate more profits by extracting inflated premiums from doctors, manipulating public opinion, reducing jury verdicts and squeezing favorable laws from reluctant legislatures. Another finding of the study was that "other practice expenses increased substantially". No doubt a large part of the actual increase in doctors' expenses is caused by the insurers themselves - whose practices require doctors to add staffers to submit and re-submit their bills over and over again trying to get paid. Such insurance company practices - not malpractice premiums - are surely the major drawback of a private medical practice today. Being a passenger in a car driven by a bad driver can be fatal. Honolulu's 22nd fatal car accident of 2025 involved a passenger who was ejected after the driver of their car lost control and crashed into a fence first and then into a guardrail on Kam Highway in the Mililani area. The passenger was ejected and killed. See, Fatal Car Accident in Mililani, Hawaii on April 12, 2025
