The Lawson Law Scholarship 2018

We are very proud and excited to announce the Lawson Law Scholarship 2018 - which will be awarded in the early summer of 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year. This will be the third year that the The Lawson Law Scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Christian law student. In our third year of providing the scholarship we hope to assist a young energetic Christian law student to attend law school, but we also hope to be able to assist many more young energetic Christian law students to pursue their dreams of a law school education in the years to come. Below are the scholarship details and submission information. For an entry form to apply for the Lawson Law Scholarship 2018, please click here: The Lawson Law Scholarship 2018 - Application Form. The deadline for submitting the scholarship application and the accompanying video is May 31, 2018. It is anticipated that the recipient of the scholarship will be announced by June 30, 2018.

For the 2018-2019 school year, the Lawson Law Scholarship 2018 will be providing a scholarship of $2,000.00 towards tuition for a young Christian law student who wishes to study law at an accredited 3 year law school. The scholarship consists of one $2,000 payment, payable to the student's law school as part of the student's tuition.

This scholarship is for a communicator who has the joy and the talent to impact this world for Christ and who is interested in doing exactly that. The winner will be selected from the group of eligible candidates who (1) complete our application form and (2) post online a video of 30 seconds to 2 minutes on how they wish to use their law school education to advance the cause of Christ. Among other things, we will be looking for fresh, exciting, innovative and promising ideas about how to get the gospel message out to the world.

There have been two prior versions of this law student scholarship, the Lawson Law Scholarship 2016 and the Lawson Law Scholarship 2017. The 2016 law scholarship was awarded to John Melcon of the University of Virginia School of Law. The 2017 law scholarship has not yet been awarded. There have been three past recipients of the Lawson Scholarships for undergraduates. The Lawson Scholarship 2015 (for undergraduates) was awarded to Joshua Bowling of Arizona State University. An important victory in the fight for individual rights (as opposed to insurer rights) is the case of Yukumoto and HMSA v. Tawahara. In that case on May 26, 2017, the Hawaii Supreme Court rejected the efforts of a health insurer who tried to convert its insurance coverage into a 'loan agreement' and recover its medical expense payments from Mr. Yukumoto when he had a 3rd party claim - in spite of the fact that he was not being fully compensated for his losses. This insidious insurance practice has been damaging the citizens and members of the Hawaii community for many years. For more info, see the decision here: Yukumoto and HMSA v. Tawahara, Hawaii Sup. Ct. No. SCAP-15-0000460 (May 26, 2017).
